PAT MCPHADEN 1919 - 2009 Peacefully on May 12, Pat McPhaden entered life eternal. Pat was predeceased by her loving husband Jack in 2000. She is survived by her children Carol McPhaden (Roger Kingsley), Barbara Bater (Brian), and Allan (Audrey); by grandchildren Michael and Lisa McPhaden, Chris and Jared Bater (Michelle Bishop), and Alex and Lauren McPhaden; and by great-grandchildren Jack McPhaden and Sienna Bater. Pat also leaves a sister Freda in Newcastle on Tyne, England, and numerous nephews and nieces in Canada and England. The family would like to give thanks to the staff at Golden Links Lodge, especially the staff on the second floor. Pat was born in Tiverton, England, on April 21, 1919, and raised in the southwest. During the Second World War, she enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. During this time, she met dashing young airman Jack McPhaden from Canada, who quickly became the love of her life. They married on March 16, 1944, and were separated for over a year when Jack was demobilized. She was able to rejoin Jack in the spring of 1946 when she immigrated to Canada to join him in farming near Oak River, Manitoba. They remained to farm in the Oak River area for a number of years; their three children were born there. In 1959, Jack joined the Veterans Land Administration, and the family relocated to Morden. The family moved to Fort Garry in 1964 when Jack joined the Farm Credit Corporation. Pat remained a strong support to Jack and a loving mother to her children for the remainder of her life; she will be greatly missed by her family. Pat was also a dedicated member of Fort Garry United Church and of the Rebekahs. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Thomson in the Park, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, with the Reverend Doctor Gordon Taylor officiating.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Allan, Carol, Barb and families. Your Mom was a wonderful person. I'll always remember how she tolerated our antics in the basement on Kebir Place! Always a kind word, always a smile, always welcoming us into her warm home. We are thinking of you . Barb, Gord, Jill & Jeff - Posted by: Gord Mooney (Friend) on: May 14, 2009
